La maison est leur espace commun, mais la question de la propriété est distendue, ils ne l’habitent pas tous de la même façon. Au fur et mesure des séquences, nous ne retrouvons pas les mêmes personnages mais les mêmes relations d’interdépendance. Par l’alternance entre complainte et sexualité, communication physique et verbale sont mises au même niveau. Le film déconstruit alors, par sa structure répétitive, nos mythes relationnels.

Dans un village au cœur du Kirghizistan, le jeune Esen tombe amoureux de Begimai, la fille d’un chef local. Celui-ci devient rapidement son ennemi et multiplie les coups-bas contre le jeune homme. Dans un accès de colère, Esen commet l’irréparable et détruit un arbre vénéré pour ses pouvoirs sacrés. Chassé du village, il emporte Begimai avec lui mais le couple est bientôt rattrapé par la cavalerie et Esen est lynché par les villageois. Il va devoir alors se reconstruire et aller de l’avant pour reconquérir les siens.

Bien que le nom soit le même, leur vie est complètement différente.
